World Plumbing Day

Jun 10, 2020

Friday, March 11th is World Plumbing Day. Below you will find what World Plumbing Day is all about, and what you can do to help the cause.

2005-2015 was declared the International Decade for Action by the United Nations. This created a world agenda that focused its attention on water-related issues. In a world where water and sanitation related diseases claim the lives of around 31 million people per year; it is crucial that this initiative be taken seriously.WPD logo

The plumbing industry is doing all it can to address the key elements from this widespread problem. By properly testing the products we use, making sure everything is up to code, and having periodic maintenance, we can drastically reduce the likelihood of failures that facilitate the spread of disease.

The ultimate goal is to supply 97 million people annual access to safe drinking water and 138 million people sanitation services through last year.

While the goal was to be completed in 2015, you can still do your part in helping provide people with clean, safe water. The following are just a couple ways you can do your part –

  • Turning up/down your air conditioning or heat by a few degrees can help save energy.
  • By installing solar hot water heaters, you are able to reduce your greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Getting a leak fixed can save up to 1,000 gallons of water a month. You can tell if you have a leak by putting food coloring in your toilet tank, if it seeps into the tank you have a leak.
  • Using a hose nozzle when you wash your car can save you up to 100 gallons of water.

“Plumbing is vital to global health.”
